Makalu Roof Conversion is a product which is dedicated to Land Rover Discovery 2 and belongs to the HyenaCamper accessories line. This line of accessories is made of aluminium in monocoque system, which makes them unique.
Makalu Roof Conversion is a lightweight construction, made almost entirely of aluminium. The pop-up roof opens a sleeping place for 2 adults, and the lifted bed creates camper space in the rear of the car where we can live while camping. A built-in shower cubicle for two people gives extra privacy space when showering or changing clothes, for example. It gives a lot of possibilities for the individual arrangement of the interior and the addition of many external and internal accessories. Hyena Canopy Camper is built in an aluminium monocoque system. Each element is designed in 3D CAD programs and is part of the spatial structure, creating a one unit. This increases its endurance and lowers the total weight.
The main approach in designing by Hyena Overland Makalu Roof Conversion was to create the possibility for the Land Rover Discovery 2 to be converted into a mini camper. To open multiple configuration options to create the perfect Overland Truck that will meet all of the owner's needs. It was a challenge to find the best compromise between the optimal use of motorhome opportunities, with the least possible impact on the off-road ability of the car, its mobility and what automatically equals safety while driving. That is why we have carefully designed the overall dimensions of the Canopy Camper. The goal was after installation Roof Conversion for the driver to have greater confidence in driving in difficult terrain, local roads and highways.

The bedroom, which is a tent part, is one of the most important spaces during remote camping. In Makalu Roof Conversion, the large opening angle of the tent roof creates a real space in the tent. It increases the usable surface and improves its functionality. At the same time, it reduces the effect of claustrophobia and low-slung roof overhead. A tent made of a very high-quality material is built into the tent part. It has two side windows and a central entrance.
Roof of Makalu Conversion is lined with double-layer insulation material on the inside, with a black headliner placed on top. The insulation perfectly protects the interior of the tent from heating up the soy cars in the sun. The tent is cool and pleasant.
The bed size is 120x200 and includes a mattress. The bed is divided into two parts which can be independently lifted. This option allows you to create a mini camper space in the lower part of the car. When two parts of the bed are raised, you can stay in the lower part of the car and use it in a standing position as a camper. Thanks to divided bed solution, you can get from sleeping area to the lower part of the car without leaving the vehicle. You can also get to the sleeping area from the bottom (from the inside of the car). In general - entering the tent part can be done from outside the car directly by entering the tent using a ladder or natural steps located on the car - bumper, ladder, spare wheel. Or from inside the car. Entering the car through the back door and then climbing onto the bed (when one part of the bed is raised).

The gas cylinders used to lift the roof are from Stabilus. Absolutely strong and solid cylinders. They are available for purchase on the market. It is very important that spare parts are easily accessible.
In the front part of Makalu Roof Conversion there is a mount for LED BAR Light (it is adapted to the Hella Black Magic LED Light which is an additional option).
In the back part there is a step on which you can stand leaving the sleeping area. In its lower part there will be a built-in brake light, and the possibility of mounting additional LED lights.
Additionally, it is possible to order a built-in shower cabin. It is integrated into the side part of the roof.

Makalu Roof Conversion is made from 3mm aluminium construction (in a smaller part 2mm aluminium - where the material is not a structural part but a masking one and 3mm s355 steel where high element strength is required). The weight of Makalu Roof Conversion is approximately 110 kg.
FITTING / SEALING
The Makalu construction is very tightly and precisely mounted on the roof of the Land Rover Discovery 2. Thanks to the original Land Rover design, only the roof shell is removed and the original roof structural elements remain intact. Makalu Roof Conversion rests and is mounted along entire length on the Land Rover roof structural points, which remain unchanged and unaffected. It is attached to the car with a mix of m10 screws and rivets. The POPUP ROOF aluminium frame itself is very durable and realistically strengthens the roof and stiffness of the car.
Sealing in most cases is done using Windshield Adhesive, which is extremely strong, resistant to atmospheric conditions and does not degrade over time. Sealing takes place during the assembly of the roof as well as after its assembly. Access to the sealing points is very easy and the sealant is uncomplicated to apply.
For additional sealing and reinforcement roof surface on top of normal paint is painted with raptor paint (several layers) in places of screws and in places where leaks could potentially appear. This is practically a life-long seal. Additionally, the roof is sealed from the inside which gives double protection.
